First room in the Harem. The Harem was the living space of the sultan, the sultan's mother, the sultan’s women, children, brothers, and sisters. It also contained living quarters for servants, concubines, and the black eunuchs, who were the protectors of the Harem. The Harem has 300 rooms, 9 baths, 2 mosques, 1 hospital, 1 laundry, and many more rooms of different kinds.

The pebble walkway in this photo, leads to the entrance to the private quarters of the Sultan.
